Little White Lies

Issue 80
Magazine

The freshest and most credible voice in film, LWLies is the world's most stunning film source. Honest, unmerciful, relevant - and always beautiful.

LWLIES 80 THE SOUVENIR ISSUE

Exhibition • Revisited versions of ‘The Souvenir’, painted by Jean-Honoré Fragonard (1775–1778).

THE SOUVENIR • In her most personal and provocative film to date, Joanna Hogg explores her own memories to create a fragile, fascinating portrait of romance in both bloom and decay.

THE ART OF VULNERABILITY • For her miraculous fourth feature, The Souvenir, writer/director Joanna Hogg exhumes a tragic formative relationship with the help of leading lady Honor Swinton Byrne. We meet them both to discuss diaries, memories and the life-changing qualities of making art.

LIFE REWIRED • For our latest creative brief, in partnership with the Barbican, we set our readers the challenge of reimagining their favourite movie star with a sci-fi twist. The standard of the entries was the highest for any creative brief we’ve ever run – the top prize going to Joseph Joyce for his eye-catching portrait of a cyborg-enhanced Samuel L Jackson.

MAJOR TOM • The British stage and screen actor describes getting into the character of enigmatic lothario Anthony and channelling his curiosities for a career-making role in Joanna Hogg’s The Souvenir.
