STEPHEN LAWLESS • Born in Warrington, England, Stephen Lawless has achieved international acclaim as one of Britain’s most accomplished and prolific opera directors. He was director of productions at Glyndebourne from 1986 to 1991, where his production of Britten’s Death in Venice won him huge critical acclaim. He has since worked extensively in Europe and the US in a wide range of repertoire. His career was launched when he revived Andrei Tarkovsky’s staging of Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov at the Kirov Opera, the first opera televised by the BBC from the Soviet Union
