Four classic TV novelisations in which the Doctor and friends are witnesses to alien invasion.
In Doctor Who and the Tenth Planet, by Gerry Davis, the First Doctor, Ben and Polly help the crew of an Antarctic tracking station as they resist invasion by the Cybermen, intent on enslaving humanity for their own needs.
In The Dominators, by Ian Marter, the Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe find the peaceful planet Dulkis threatened with subjugation by brutal aliens and their robotic Quarks.
In The Pirate Planet, by Douglas Adams and James Goss, the Fourth Doctor, Romana and K9 encounter the tyrannical Captain of Zanak, whose pillaging of other planets apparently knows no bounds.
In The Christmas Invasion, by Jenny T Colgan, a newly regenerated Tenth Doctor must rely on Rose Tyler to help save Earth from the deadly invading Sycorax.
Anneke Wills, Michael Troughton, Jon Culshaw and Camille Coduri read these thrilling tales, with Nicholas Briggs as the voice of the Cybermen.

ÒShadaÓ is the notorious partially completed, never-aired ÒDoctor WhoÓ television episode, originally scripted by Douglas Adams. This novelization by veteran ÒDoctor WhoÓ writer Gareth Roberts fills the gaps left by Adams and crafts it into an entertaining sci-fi romp. Lalla Ward, Romana in the TV series, proves to be an agile voice artist, and her characterizations are informed by her insider knowledge. John Leeson, the voice of the Doctor's robot dog, K-9, in the TV series, reprises his role to good effect. This BBC production also features background music and numerous audio effects from the series. ÒShadaÓ is a must for ÒDoctor WhoÓ fans, but it's also produced in a way that will entice new listeners to the series. F.T. © AudioFile 2012, Portland, Maine

THE TENTH PLANET has been called the Holy Grail of Doctor Who lost episodes. First broadcast in 1996, it features the regeneration of the first Doctor (William Hartnell) to the second (Patrick Troughton), and also the first appearance of the sinister Cybermen from the doomed planet Mondas. The video may be lost, but here the BBC has lovingly restored the audio and inserted a skillful narration by Anneke Wills, who played Polly in the TV series. She also reminisces at the end of the audio presentation. With its great music, sound effects, and solid, if overripe, acting, the BBC has done it again, somewhat compensating for the missing video.
