According to Robertiello (criminal justice, Felician Univ., NJ), only the most pressing issues and most important turning points in police work were selected for inclusion. The volume tackles case laws, amendments, criminal justice concepts, political figures, victims, offenders, and law enforcement agencies. Excerpts from speeches, reports, and related studies reinforce the content. Although much of the historical information is compelling, readers will likely find essays on recent events such as the killings of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, and Tamir Rice most noteworthy. A wide variety of users will find this accessible, balanced compilation an excellent place to start their reading and research on the topic.
