NIGHT VISION

IAIN AYRE THE MEEK OR GEEKS? • BIO: Iain Ayre's automotive enthusiasms span everything from Minis to Bentleys. He has prototyped several car designs without commercial success, and has written 18 books on random motoring subjects. He continues to avoid getting a proper job.

PHIL WHITE TIME TO SIMPLIFY LIFE? • BIO: Phil White's first job, at 15, involved restoring classic cars. A decade later he began writing about them in magazines. 35 years on, he's still at it. He plans to grow up at some point, but in the meantime climbing rocks, running, cycling and, you know, writing about classic cars, seem to get in the way.

THE SEVEN-DAYSA-WEEK CAR • Terence McAuley spotted his 1956 Traction Avant Commerciale for sale at the side of the road whilst travelling in France. A week later, it was on its way to a new life in the UK.

A CHANGE OF PACE • David Parnell has rather an impressive collection of Rovers, any of which would be worth a feature. However, it is this rather fine P5 3.5-Litre Coupé that is the object of our attention today.

IT'S ONLY ORIGINAL ONCE • You may remember seeing this 1.6LS Capri on the cover of the August issue. Back then it was highlighting our Buying Guide to the Mk3 Capri, but we are returning to it now so that owner Stephen Hardcastle can tell us the story behind his car.

DOUBLE THE FUN • Buying a car that has been dismantled by a previous owner can be the beginning of a horror story, but for Desmond Short and his TR6, it was a tale that had a happy ending.

NEW WINE IN OLD BOTTLES • The 1302 and 1303 Beetles were short-lived models that offered more space and updated the handling without losing any of the plus points that made the Beetle the world's best-selling car.

All change on Alex's fleet

Mini Marcos, Reliant Robin, Chevy van and Bentley Beast

Two steps forwards, two steps back

MORRIS TRAVELLER PROJECT • Peter Simpson introduces the latest Classics World project in the shape of a Morris Minor Traveller that was restored some years ago and now needs some improvement.
