News • Need to know ◆ New models ◆ Industry info

2024 Husqvarna Svartpilen and Vitpilen 401 and 125

Harley-Davidson goes even bigger for '24

News in brief

Norton signs up MV Agusta tech guru

LONG LEGS • There’s a new tech-laden tall-rounder in town from Suzuki, which aims to build on the success of the firm’s well-received GSX-S1000GT sport tourer

Products

Refocused • Five years after launching the Scrambler 1200 XE and 1200 XC, Triumph has taken a fresh style in 2024. The British firm has opted to drop the 1200 XC and substitute it with a new 1200 X which surrenders its off-road ability, to become more accessible, whilst the top-of-the-range XE continues to have true off-road ability, with new long-travel suspension. MSL headed to Spain to try out the 1200X on the road, and have a play on the tweaked 1200 XE

Thanks for the Memories • Just this morning, I saw an Instagram post from Baxter Cycles. They have two shops now, a newish one in bustling Omaha, Nebraska, and the original operation in tiny Marne, Iowa

CCM MOTORCYCLES Today, Britain – Tomorrow, The World • It seems to be knowledge known only to the select few, but Britain’s second largest motorcycle manufacturer isn’t from the Midlands

Letters

Sent for therapy • Royal Enfield has launched a number of very successful models over the last few years, and it seems to be showing no signs of slowing down, even with the entry-level models to its range

BACK IN THE DAY... • MSL columnist Maynard Hershon picks his favourite articles from the long history of this magazine

Legal Eagle • When motorcycling and the law come head-to-head. Answers provided

Guilty as charged • How to identify what type of battery is fitted to your motorcycle (and why you may not need to know)

A Mid-sized Adventure • With an ever-expanding variety of mid-capacity adventure bikes to choose from, has the day of the range-topping behemoths been and gone?

To and from the Isle of Arran • Truly speaking, this is more than a Day Ride, but it covers a single, full day on the Isle of Arran, and that is the focus

Trip of a lifetime? • As travel broadens the mind, stretch your horizons. Even if they remain as the same horizons

Picos de Europe and Leon • The alarm went off at 4am, but my own internal clock had already kicked in, knowing I had to be up at a certain time, and thinking of the trip ahead

To Transylvania • After not touring on the bike for a couple of years due to the pandemic, Steve Roper decided to do a longer tour than usual, taking a full four weeks from door to door

Test fleet: Yamaha Ténéré World Raid • Winter warmers and width worries

Test fleet: Suzuki V-Strom 800DE • A wintertime trip to Manchester could’ve been miserable, but great clothing, a well-equipped V-Strom, and determined attitude let me enjoy it

Test fleet: Kawasaki Versys 650 GT • With reliance on the Versys at never-before-seen levels, the battery gives up the ghost… Our Bert isn’t having the best start to 2024 with vehicles

Test fleet: Suzuki GSX-8S • Stu finds that less is more with the GSX-8S

Tried & Tested • Things we’ve worn ◆ Kit we like ◆ Things we put on our bike

Controlling the results • Skills lie in where the production is
