Editor’s Highlights

Guitarist

Join The Club • Ashdown’s new 30-watt head is a powerful tool for live and studio and the latest to feature Two Notes’ integrated speaker emulation and reactive load

Black Country • Based on the Takamine used by Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi, the GD34CE has all of its stablemate’s classic good looks on a budget. But how does it sound?

Made To Measure • Most of us are happy with off-the-shelf guitar designs, but there’s nothing quite like ordering up your own custom-made guitar. We ask Maybury Guitars to build us one!

Double Act • For a double dose of fabled guitar tones, Crazy Tube Circuits puts the Dumble and Klon flavours together on your ’board

Fight Club • Ambient distortion or distorted ambience? It’s all here in a single box and controlled with a wiggle stick!

the Wishlist Dream gear to beg, borrow and steal for... • Valenti Nebula Carved Semihollow £4,499

Gas Supply • Our pick of the month’s most delectable and wallet-bothering new gear

Fretbuzz • A monthly look at must-hear artists from all corners of the guitar world, from the roots of their sound to the tracks that matter most

Albums • The month’s best guitar music – a hand-picked selection of the finest fretwork on wax

Tones Behind The Tracks • With his new album, Eric Bibb paints moving, historical portraits of people on the road to a better life that still resonates deeply today

Flip, Flop & Fly • Neville Marten discusses how our tastes in guitars can wax and wane, and on a whim we will decide ‘enough of that, time for a bit of this’…

Fresh Start • This month, Alex Bishop builds an acoustic guitar from scratch in under three weeks – but can he teach a complete beginner how to do it?

Small Size, Big Tone • The mini-humbucker deserves better than also-ran status as Gibson’s ‘other’ pickup, writes Jamie Dickson

Pedal Tones • Richard Barrett experiments with pedal tones by keeping both the bass and top notes static in this month’s chosen chords

Feedback • Your letters to the Guitarist editor. Drop us a line at guitarist@futurenet.com

GARY ROSSINGTON 1951-2023 • The survivor of the infamous Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash, who helmed the band for a further three decades and gave countless gunslingers their start, has died aged 71

DAVID LINDLEY 1944-2023 • Remembering maxi-instrumentalist slide guitar master David Lindley, who died at the age of 78 after a long illness

HÖFNER S7L • How a little known and short-lived guitar from Höfner found its way into the hands of The Stranglers’ Hugh Cornwell around the time of the band’s hit Golden Brown

50 MOONSHINE • Pink Floyd’s masterwork, The Dark Side Of The Moon, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Although it remains one of the greatest studio albums of all time, Floyd’s opus began life as a live performance and it went on to be toured twice in Floyd’s career: once in the early to mid 1970s and again in 1994. In this special edition, we examine why the 20-year-evolution of Dark Side as a hypnotically powerful live performance was a longer and even more fascinating journey than the creation of the album itself. We also find out how the journey to The Dark Side Of The Moon shaped David Gilmour’s gear choices as he strove for the signature tone we know so well today, 50 years on
