Better days

Embracing the future • Designers ponder what’s next for mankind in a new show at Hamburg’s Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, curated by Maria Cristina Didero

Board masters • Created using the ancient Japanese art of itajime, a new clothing collection by 132 5 Issey Miyake is full of surprises

A bridge to the past • The World Reimagined uses art to illuminate the history of the transatlantic slave trade, inviting us ‘to face our shared history with honesty, empathy and grace’

Postcard from PARIS • With international travel now back in full swing, we introduce our ‘Postcard from’ series, offering a snapshot of a different destination each month, highlighting the best new design, architecture, art, fashion, food and more. For our inaugural dispatch, our Paris editor Amy Serafin surveys the French capital, where an exhibition celebrates botanical beauty, an embroiderer and jeweller are elevating haute cuisine, and an Italian luxury brand is leading the way in wellness

Life lines • The regenerative designers taking a rooting interest in learning from nature

A MEETING OF MINDS • Prince Charles and Jony Ive’s Terra Carta Design Lab celebrates the work of young designers in developing high-impact, low-cost solutions to the climate crisis

A NEW CHARTER FOR THE PLANET

Game plan • This Swiss collaboration has no time for waste

Full steam ahead • A serene forest bathing retreat in the wilds of Akureyri, plus culture, creativity and concrete in the Icelandic capital

Melting points • New work by photographer Lena C Emery, supported by Danish textile brand Tekla, charts climate change’s impact on the planet’s most spectacular topography

The next big thing • On the plus side, Brussels-based fashion label Ester Manas is designing clothes for everywoman

Deep impact • Estudio MMX’s new crater-inspired Geology Museum on the Yucatán Peninsula is sure to be a big hit

Algae rhythms • When it comes to sustainable practice innovation, UK beauty brand Hæckels has its finger on the pulse

Come fly with me • First released in 1994, in one size only, Rimowa’s Pilot case was designed to fit neatly between an aircraft’s two cockpit seats and was initially intended to suit the fast-paced working life of the flight crew member (though it would soon become the case of choice for DJs, who used its tough aluminium exterior to protect their precious vinyl and mixing equipment while on the road). With the 2022 launch of the Original Pilot, now featuring pockets, laptop sleeve, removable dividers and wheels, Rimowa celebrates and embraces the diverse utility of these cases, telling the story of key players from a variety of fields and arenas. All have one thing in common: using and carrying specific tools is essential to their profession. What would you use yours for? rimowa.com

Thinkers • Design has the power to make the world a better place, but only if we use it wisely. We call on ten creative innovators who are working on solutions to today’s challenges, ranging from miscarriages of justice and sustainable beauty to responsible wine drinking and unboxing the boxed in

How have queer spaces shaken up the architectural canon? • The architect, designer and artist’s new book, Queer Spaces, offers an accessible compendium of meaningful environments for the LGBTQ community
