THE POWER OF WATER

Kayak Session Magazine

Berlin by Board • Berlin is not only the largest city in the European Union, it is also the most water-rich. Though Jens Klatt grew up not far from the German metropolis, he had traveled the world for years, convinced paddling and adventure lay elsewhere, before rediscovering the city from his SUP. What he found was too good not to share.

THE WISH LIST

SKELETON BAY DREAM CHASING ON THE NAMIBIAN COAST • South African waterman Thomas King had long dreamed of surfing Skeleton Bay, a mile-long ride on Namibia's Skeleton Coast that breaks with unmatched speed and power. Though grueling and unforgiving, Skeleton Bay is also considered one of the world's longest and best lefts. But once the former big-wave surfer discovered SUP, his dream changed. In 2018, King landed in Namibia to try what many deemed impossible.

The Short History of Skeleton Bay

THE WISH LIST

Garibaldi 2020 A LESSON IN GRATITUDE • With international travel banned in the summer and autumn of 2020, multi-sport adventurer Jimmy Martinello turned his sights away from overseas adventures to the endless potential closer to home. It was time to venture into British Columbia’s Garibaldi Provincial Park, 195,000 hectares filled with immense beauty and wildlife, snow-capped peaks, massive glaciers, lakes, and old-growth forest. Jimmy and four friends took on the challenge of exploring as much of the park as possible, using SUPs and mountaineering skills to link mountain peaks, glaciers, rivers, and lakes. More than anything, what they found was a reminder to be grateful for the simple things: the camaraderie forged by adventure and an appreciation for being alive.

THE WISH LIST

Ingrid Ulrich • Adventure and SUP expedition master Ingrid Ulrich is no stranger to challenging circumstances, having undertaken numerous multi-day SUP expeditions in polar climes and grueling cross-ocean adventures. But as Ingrid knows all too well, sometimes the toughest battles are closer to home. A domestic abuse and breast cancer survivor, Ingrid has used what life has thrown at her as motivation to never, ever, give up and as inspiration to give back.
